  Governor Dannel P. Malloy made two judicial nominations today, forwarding to the General Assembly the names of Judge Michael R. Sheldon to the Connecticut Appellate Court and Attorney Sybil Richards to the Connecticut Superior Court.

  All state employees, including non-essential state employees, are expected to report to work as scheduled on Monday, October 31, unless their worksite is closed.

  On Thursday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will give opening remarks at the University of Hartford Construction Institute’s 17th Annual State of the State in Hartford, where he will speak about his efforts to increase economic development in Connecticut, spurring growth and increasing construction jobs.

  On Thursday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will meet with a group of women business owners at the University of Hartford’s Entrepreneurial Center to discuss issues related to what the Governor hopes to accomplish in a bipartisan manner during the upcoming Jobs Special Session at the end of this month. The attendees represent a variety of small and mid-sized businesses engaged in a wide array of industries.

• Tuesday: Gov. Malloy Meets with Litchfield Area Businesses, Keynotes CT Broadcasters Assoc. Convention, Participates in News Conference on Domestic Violence Awareness

  On Tuesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Economic & Community Development Commissioner Catherine Smith will meet with members of the Litchfield Area Business Association to discuss issues related to what the Governor hopes to accomplish in a bipartisan manner during the upcoming Jobs Special Session at the end of this month. Approximately 60-80 area business owners and managers are anticipated to attend the meeting.

• Gov. Malloy Announces First Payments of Elderly Renters Rebate Program Released

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the first checks under the Elderly Renters Rebate Program are being released Friday. The checks, totaling $21.7 million are being mailed to 42,332 elderly renters to help offset a portion of their rent and utility expenses. Other eligible persons will receive checks over the next several weeks.

  On Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m., Governor Dannel P. Malloy will hold a news briefing from the State Emergency Operations Center in Hartford to provide residents and media with the latest updates on snowstorm recovery efforts.

• Dept. of Emergency Services & Public Protection Release: Commissioner Bradford and Secretary Barnes Announce Layoff Notices Rescinded for 56 State Troopers

  Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Commissioner Reuben Bradford and Office of Policy and Management Secretary Ben Barnes today announced that the layoff notices for 56 State Troopers who were laid off beginning on August 24 have been rescinded. Since the state employee unions ratified the second SEBAC agreement, 40 sworn personnel of various ranks have chosen to retire.

• Tuesday: Gov. Malloy Participates in DGA Policy Conference to Discuss Economic Development, Bioscience

  On Tuesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will attend the Democratic Governors Association and the Center for Innovative Policy’s Fall Policy Conference, where he will participate in a policy discussion on the new economy, and specifically, emerging technologies in biotechnology, healthcare, energy, and transportation at the Mint Museum Uptown in Charlotte.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy will hold a press conference at noon to update media on storm recovery and restoration efforts.

• Dept. of Emergency Services & Public Protection Release: Disaster Recovery Center and Disaster Loan Outreach Center Closings Start Thursday, October 6th

  Federal and state officials today announced the closing of the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport and six Disaster Loan Outreach Centers (DLOCs) operated by the U.S. Small Business Administration in North Haven, Farmington, Groton, Torrington, Orange and Guilford on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.

  On Thursday evening, Governor Malloy will be the keynote speaker at the East Hartford Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting, where he will speak about his efforts to improve the business climate in Connecticut and get our state’s fiscal house in order to help create new jobs and keep the ones we have.
