Governor Lamont Highlights Major Upgrades Coming to Waterbury Branch of the New Haven Line, Says Federal Infrastructure Bill Will Bring Additional Improvements to Connecticut
Governor Ned Lamont today visited the Ansonia Train Station, where he joined with other state and local officials to highlight his administration’s plans to install two-way rail service on the Waterbury Branch of the Metro-North Railroad New Haven Line over the coming months, and noted that the project is one of several major transportation improvements that will come to Connecticut following last week’s approval by Congress of the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Governor Ned Lamont and officials from several Connecticut state agencies today are advising residents of global energy commodity cost increases that are driving energy prices this winter, including electric generation rates, natural gas rates, and home heating oil prices, and various efforts that are being undertaken in the state to help mitigate the impact of these external forces in Connecticut.

Governor Lamont Announces the Screen and Stay Initiative for Connecticut Schools
Governor Ned Lamont today announced the rollout of the Screen and Stay initiative for Connecticut schools that choose to participate. Under the initiative, students and staff identified as close contacts to a known COVID-19 case but who are not yet fully vaccinated will be able to remain in school if they were wearing masks and don’t develop symptoms.

Governor Ned Lamont and Connecticut Education Commissioner Charlene M. Russell-Tucker today announced that 40 high schools from 19 districts across the state will participate in the 2021-22 Connecticut FAFSA Challenge, an initiative designed to increase Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion rates, improve postsecondary access, and close opportunity gaps among high school students.

Governor Ned Lamont today announced that at his urging, President Joe Biden has approved his request for a presidential major disaster declaration due to the damage caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida in early September.
