Albertus Magnus College

Overview

Albertus Magnus College offers two options for high school students to earn college credit, College Before College and Dual-Credit.

College Before College: Qualified high school seniors can enroll in one Albertus course (tuition-free) taught by Albertus faculty on the Albertus campus. Students who successfully complete the course will receive Albertus college credit. Credits earned through Albertus are transferable to other institutions in alignment with their transfer credit policies.  College Before College students bring a contemporary point of view to the classroom, gain experience in a college situation, and are part of the Albertus program for easing the transition from the high school classroom to college classroom.

Dual-Credit: In Albertus’s dual-credit program, students who attend one of Albertus’s partner high schools have the opportunity to enroll in Albertus-approved courses as part of their regular high school experience; taking courses in their high school during the school day. Students who successfully complete the course will receive Albertus college credit. Credits earned through Albertus are transferable to other institutions in alignment with their transfer credit policies.

Student Eligibility

College Before College Guidelines:

  1. The student must be a high school senior.
  2. The student must be in good academic standing with a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or above.
  3. The student must submit a copy of their high school transcript as well as a brief essay explaining why they are interested in attending Albertus Magnus College.
  4. The student must submit a letter of recommendation from their guidance counselor.
  5. Students in College Before College are limited to ONE course and may not enroll for additional study until they have graduated from high school.

Dual-Credit Guidelines:  Each high school partner determines student eligibility to enroll in dual-credit courses. Students should consult with their high school guidance counselor.

Instructor Credentials for Concurrent Enrollment Courses

Dual-Credit: The certified teacher must hold a master’s degree or higher in the discipline that the course is being offered in or in a comparable discipline as determined by Albertus. The teacher will be required to submit a curriculum vitae and an official copy of their graduate degree transcript from an accredited institution of higher education to the Albertus Magnus College, Office of the Registrar. The teacher will then be credentialed as a part-time lecturer in the corresponding Albertus Department.

Registration and Fees

College Before College: High school seniors who meet the eligibility requirements for our College Before College Program can take up to one course for free.

Dual-Credit: Albertus’s dual-credit partners ensure that student information is transmitted to Albertus’s Registrar within two weeks of the start of the course. The fee per 3-credit course is $65. Each additional credit hour beyond 3-credits is assessed at $20.

Credits earned through Albertus are transferable to other institutions in alignment with their transfer credit policies.
