Governor's Council on Climate Change Kicks off Public Review and Forums Period
Today, the Governor’s Council on Climate Change (GC3) is launching a series of public forums in which working groups for the GC3 will present their draft reports and seek input from the public on recommendations to keep Connecticut on track to meet its goal of a 45 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and how to adapt and become resilient to the impacts of climate change.
The public forums will begin today with a virtual kick-off meeting from 4:30 to 6:00. In observance of ongoing social distancing guidance, the entire series of public forums will be virtual. During those virtual forums, working groups will present the reports and provide opportunities for public participation over the course of the public review period.
The GC3 includes seven working groups: Progress on Mitigation Strategies; Working and Natural Lands; Public Health and Safety Adaptation; Infrastructure and Land Use Adaptation; Financing and Funding Adaptation and Resilience; Science and Technology; and Equity and Environmental Justice.
Detailed agendas for each forum will be posted on the GC3 website. Each event will include overview presentations followed by breakout sessions for in-depth discussions on each working group’s findings and recommendations. Public forums will take place on the Zoom platform, and the overview presentations will be recorded for viewing at a later date. Minutes will be taken on each of the breakout session discussions. The working groups will post reports for public review on the GC3 website by September 22 and feedback will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on October 21. Written feedback on working group reports can be emailed to deep.climatechange@ct.gov.
