How To Apply
For informational purposes only. The Artist Fellowship program will run in our next grant cycle (opens in summer of 2024) and program materials may be revised.
All applications must be submitted through COA's e-granting portal. Applicants requiring alternative formats should reach out to COA's Accessibility Coordinator, Tamara Dimitri by email at tamara.dimitri@ct.gov.
COA is utilizing the SurveyMonkey Apply On-line Application Platform https://ctofficeofthearts.smapply.org/
- New Applicants are required to register at https://ctofficeofthearts.smapply.org/acc/r/?g=77198
- Returning Applicants should login with the same email and password as used in the past. If you forgot your password then select "Forgot my password" to reset a new one. If you are experiencing login issue then Contact Support by selecting the circle icon in the top right corner.
Applicants will complete the following task forms as part of the e-application.
- Artistic Discipline & Work Sample
- Artist Pitch / Fellowship Statement
- Applicant Information
- Signature and Certification
You can save & continue editing throughout the application process. When each task is complete select "Mark as Complete" then when you are ready to submit your application select the "SUBMIT" tab to send your application forward in the system. You should receive a confirmation email notifying you that your application was submitted.
Artistic Discipline & Work Sample e-application task
Select one (1) Primary Discipline that best describes your work:
- Community / Teaching
- Choreography / Dance
- Cultural / Traditional Arts
- Design
- Digital Media / Film
- Literary Arts
- Music
- Theater / Playwriting
- Visual Arts
Enter up to four (4) Secondary Disciplines that align with your artistic practice. You may select from the list provided or enter other disciplines as needed.
Work Samples: All work samples MUST represent recent or in-progress work created by the applicant and/or in collaboration with other artists. If your work is part of a collaboration please acknowledge your collaborators as part of your submission. Applicants MUST have primary artistic control of the work.
Applicants may choose only one (1) Work Sample format. Select the format that best aligns with your work and provide a brief description (up to 150 word count) about the work you are presenting.
Manuscript / Document |
Upload a document file. Do not exceed 25 pages. Save as a .pdf, .doc, or .docx file no larger than 5MB and # your pages. Your work sample may be a published work, a work-in-progress, or a combination of the two. You may select 25 continuous pages of a single work, or you may include more than one piece as long as the total work sample does not exceed 25 pages. |
Images |
Upload up to 10 images. File size should be within the range of 150 kB (min) and 4 MB (max) and saved as .jpg or .png files. Images may consist of finished work, works-in-progress, or a combination of the two. Applicants may include detail and installation images which will count towards the max. of 10 images files. For each image, enter the title, materials, dimensions, and date created in the description box. If possible before uploading your images, save your files using the title of the piece as the filename. |
Video / Audio |
Upload or provide a link to a video or audio file of up to 5 minutes in length and enter a title for your work. Applicants may submit completed works, works-in-progress or a combination of the two. Your video or audio sample may be of a single work or more than one. If your file exceeds 5 minutes in length, reviewers will only view/listen to the first five minutes.If your link requires a password to access, then provide a the password in the corresponding text field. Reviewers are only required to review the Work Sample you provide as part of your application. They may review Supplemental Work Samples if they choose to explore your work further. All links should remain live and available to the reviewers through mid-February 2021.
Artist Pitch / Fellowship Statement e-application task
- If available, enter your website URL and/or an additional web URL where more about your work can be found.
- Applicants may provide their professional Social Media sites.
- Upload your resume, bio, or CV.
Artist Pitch / Fellowship Statement - Applicants may select their preferred format for sharing their artist pitch. The artist pitch should provide an introduction of you and your artistic practice and it should touch on the following:
- your past work,
- your plans for creating new work,
- how the recognition and funding will impact your artistic career/goals,
- and what you plan to achieve as a result of this award.
Your artist pitch may be submitted in written form or as a video submission.
- If you submit a written artist pitch, you may choose to upload a one-page document file or enter your written statement in a text box up to 750 word count.
- If you submit a video artist pitch, you may choose to upload a video file or provide a link to an online source. Your video artist pitch must not exceed 5 minutes in length.
Applicant Information e-application task
- Applicant Name & Contact Information. Be sure to include your legal name and your residential street address.
- Enter your Legislative District information based on your residential address and use the Find Your Legislators site.
- Select your Regional Service Organization(s). Our partner list and town coverage is available HERE.
- Please share your self-identification. Check all that apply (see e-grant application for the checkbox list).
