Application Information:- What license type do I need? Review the scope of work for available license types to determine what best covers the services you intend to provide.
- Every individual applicant must take an exam(s) – Please note: Separate fees will be due to the exam vendor at time of exam registration.
- Connecticut does not have reciprocal agreements with any other jurisdiction.
- Only individuals can apply, company applications are not accepted.
- The Department does not pre-approve or review applications before submission.
- Application fee for W-1, W-2, W-3, W-4, W-7, W-8, W-9, and W-10 is $88.00 (Non-Refundable).
- Application fee for W-5 and W-6 is $50.00 (Non-Refundable).

Journeyperson Well Drilling License Requirements:
W-2 Water Supply Driller Journeyperson
Requirement: Apprenticeship completion from the CT. Dept. of Labor or equivalent experience and training.

W-4 Limited Non-Water Supply Driller Journeyperson
Requirement: Completion of trainee program including 2,000 on the job training hours and the following related instruction:
-OSHA 10 course
-OSHA Lockout/Tag out (Control of Hazardous Energy) Training (2 Hour)
-Higher level OSHA certification in construction industry or equivalent trade safety course
-A trade related instruction course, not less than 40-hours relative to the scope of work for trainee type.
W-6 Limited Well Casing Extension Driller Journeyperson
Requirement: Must hold a J-2 or P-2 license
W-8 Limited Geothermal Driller Journeyperson
Requirement: Completion of trainee program including 2,000 on the job training hours and the following related instruction:
-OSHA 10 course
-OSHA Lockout/Tag out (Control of Hazardous Energy) Training (2 Hour)
-Higher level OSHA certification in construction industry or equivalent trade safety course

Contractor Well Drilling License Type Requirements:
W-1 Water Supply Driller Contractor
Requirement: 2 years as a W-2 journeyperson license holder or equivalent out of state license
W-3 Limited Non-Water Supply Driller Contractor
Requirement: 2 years as a W-4 journeyperson license holder or equivalent out of state license
W-5 Limited Well Casing Extension Driller Contractor
Requirement: Must hold a J-1 or P-1 license
W-7 Limited Geothermal Driller Contractor
Requirement: 2 years as a W-8 journeyperson license holder or equivalent out of state license
Application fees:
All application fees are nonrefundable.
The application fee for all well drilling license types is $88, with the exception of the W-5 and W-6.
The fee for W-5 and W-6 license types is $50.
Applications:
All well drilling registrations expire annually on April 30th. Renewal Fee: Well driller $250.00; Well casing $50.00.
