Limited Well Drilling Contractor Types

W-3  Limited Non-Water Supply Driller Contractor

If you have held the W-4 Journeyperson license for a minimum of two years, you must submit a copy of your W-4 license with your application.

If you are applying with an equivalent out of state license, please note that an equivalent out of state license is one that requires 6,000 on the job training hours and equivalent related instruction as required for the W-4 to obtain.  An equivalent license must be one that is individually held, rather than a business license or registration. Only one out of state license will be reviewed and considered for equivalency.

If you hold an equivalent out of state license, you must submit the following documentation:

  • Copy of the license
  • Official license verification from the state in which you hold the license.
  • Laws and regulations that include the on the job training and classroom hours met for you to obtain this license and scope of work for this license.

Documentation submitted for proof of equivalent an out of state license MUST BE in PDF format, scanned and attached to an email.  Screenshots from a mobile device are not accepted. You must clearly mark (i.e. underline highlight, circle) the area within the document that states the specific criteria and number of on the job training and classroom hours that were required to obtain this license.

If you are applying with equivalent experience and training, you must submit the following documentation:

  • Proof of on the job training - 6,000 hours

    Employer letters are required and must include dates of employment as well as a specific, detailed description of work experience including all aspects of the scope of work.  Letters must be on company letterhead, signed, dated, and notarized.

  • Proof of related instruction

    Proof of OSHA 30 construction industry or equivalent trade safety course AND  trade related instruction courses, not less than 40 hours relative to the scope of work for trainee type.

    NOTE: Transcripts or certificates required. 

    NOTE: 30 hours of OSHA instruction is in addition to the 40-hour requirement

W-5  Limited Well Casing Extension Driller Contractor

If you have held the W-6 Journeyperson license for a minimum of two years, you must submit a copy of your W-6 license with your application.

If you hold a J-1 or P-1 license, you must submit a copy of this license with the application.

W-7  Limited Geothermal Driller Contractor

If you have held the W-8 Journeyperson license for a minimum of two years, you must submit a copy of your W-8 license with your application.
