Summary Suspensions

The Department of Consumer Protection may immediately suspend a liquor permit without a hearing when “public health, safety or welfare imperatively requires emergency action.”  The permit is then subject to additional proceedings for revocation or other action.  

Law enforcement or another public official may request a summary suspensionThe official should submit a letter to the Director of Liquor Control explaining the specific event underlying the request and any prior history with the premisesAll police reports and documentation should be includedNote that time is of the essence, and any requests must be submitted as close to the event as possible.
