What is HART?

HART is the Human Anti-trafficking Response Team (HART). The HART team works to help people who have been trafficked and to prevent the trafficking of children and teens.

The program is led by the Department of Children and Families. It coordinates work by State and local agencies (including law enforcement), the medical community, and other service providers to:

  • Identify and respond to potential child trafficking
  • Promote trafficking awareness and education
  • Help victims recover
  • Monitor efforts to combat trafficking
  • Clarify mandatory reporting
  • Provide a statewide oversight and monitoring body

HART teams help trafficked children and their families. The teams are led by HART Liaisons and include:

  • A treatment team with any needed medical, mental health, and other providers
  • Legal representation if needed

The HART Liaisons also help legal teams get resources to prosecute traffickers.
