Does DCF provide behavioral healthcare?
Almost all children in Department of Children and Families (DCF) care are enrolled in HUSKY A, Connecticut’s Medicaid HMO plan. They're eligible for many behavioral healthcare services through the Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership (CT BHP), including outpatient therapy, inpatient psychiatric hospital, and home-based therapies.
Kids in the Voluntary Care Management Program are eligible for some behavioral healthcare, too.
CT BHP is also piloting a program focusing on children in their first foster placement.
- CT BHP Intensive Care Managers work with staff at area offices to help kids get behavioral healthcare if they need it. They are behavioral health clinicians who work with the most complex behavioral health issues.
- CT BHP Peer Specialists work with foster parents to help them navigate the system and provide support to keep the placement intact. They have experienced behavioral health issues themselves or in family members.
The services of Intensive Care Managers and Peer Specialists are also available to any child covered by CT HUSKY Health. The child's therapist/counselor, DCF worker, foster care worker, parent, or guardian can contact the CT BHP and make a request.
