Can the State help pay for our adopted child’s education?
Connecticut helps many children adopted from the Department of Children and Families (DCF) pay for college or a carer school. For full details please read our policy 3-2-1 College/Post-Secondary Education Assistance.
College and post-secondary school assistance
Students follow these steps to get financial help:
- Apply for appropriate grants and scholarships to reduce school costs. Document your efforts.
- Contact Paul.Gressly@ct.gov when you receive a school acceptance letter or no later than May 15th of the year you apply for assistance.
- Complete and submit 3-2-1F Application and Agreement for College Assistance or Post Secondary Education. You can fill it out online or have DCF mail you an application. Email or mail it by June 30th of the year you’re requesting an application.
- Section III lists the other documents you need to submit with the form.
- You may need to contact the school’s bursar/business office and financial aid office to complete section IV on page 2 of the form.
- Complete and submit 3-2-1F Application and Agreement for College Assistance or Post Secondary Education each year to keep getting financial support.
DCF sends:
- DCF-633 – Statement of Financial Assistance for Post Secondary Education (PDF) to the applicant
- DCF-634 – Confirmation of Financial Assistance (PDF) to the school
- Payments to the school at the appropriate times (semester, trimester, or other period)
To continue receiving help paying for school, you need to:
- Be accepted in a full-time accredited or licensed program
- Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 each year
- Send these to DCF at the end of each semester, trimester, or quarter:
- Proof of your enrollment/registration
- A copy of your grades
- Complete and submit 3-2-1F Application and Agreement for College Assistance or Post Secondary Education each year
