Who can adopt a child in Connecticut?
You can adopt a child if you:
- Are at least 21 years old
- Pass criminal background checks
- Pass a home evaluation
- Have enough income to provide for yourself and the child
- Have at least a two-bedroom home
- Attend a 10-week training program
Here are a few more things you should know:
- There is no discrimination based on race, gender identity or expression, marital status, or actual or perceived inherent sexuality. You can be single or married. You can be a same-gender couple.
- You can already have one or more children in your home.
- You can work outside the home if your plan is approved by the child’s social worker. Their evaluation is guided by the age and needs of each child.
