Municipalities where proposed project might be located: Middletown, Durham and Middlefield
Project Description: The Town of Durham is preparing an Engineering Study for the potential extension of a public water supply from the City of Middletown to the Town of Durham. The base case in this study will include piping to supply drinking water to properties within the Superfund area whose water supply wells are contaminated or threatened by the former releases at the Merriam and Durham manufacturing sites. Various options will be considered to serve other contaminated areas in Durham and an option to also serve contaminated areas in Middlefield that lie on, or close to, the Durham/Middlefield border.Provision of fire protection and connecting the main to the Durham Center Water System will also be considered as options. A similar study was completed in May 2000.The current study will update the information and cost estimates in the 2000 study.
