  Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that Connecticut has joined with 47 other states and the District of Columbia in a $71 million settlement with biopharmaceutical company AMGEN, Inc. to resolve allegations that the company unlawfully promoted two biologic medications, Aranesp and Enbrel.

  Connecticut has joined the Department of Justice (DOJ) in a complaint and proposed settlement with AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. (AMC) and SMH Theaters, Inc. (Starplex Cinemas) to resolve concerns that AMC's purchase of a Connecticut Starplex theater would substantially harm competition for Connecticut consumers, Attorney General George Jepsen said today.

  A federal court has granted a request to shut down a tech support scam operating out of Essex, Conn., and two locations in Pennsylvania that allegedly scammed consumers out of more than $17 million by pretending to represent Microsoft, Apple and other major tech companies, Attorney General George Jepsen said today.

• State Settles with Psychiatrist who Allegedly Submitted False Claims to the Connecticut Medicaid Program

  A New Haven and Fairfield-based psychiatrist and her husband will pay $400,000 to settle a civil False Claims Act lawsuit originally filed by the Attorney General in June 2015 alleging that the couple engaged in a long term scheme to submit false claims for services provided to Medicaid patients in Connecticut. The settlement agreement was approved last week by a Hartford Superior Court judge, Attorney General George Jepsen said.

• AG Jepsen: Connecticut Joins Settlement with Education Management Corporation That Forgives Over $100 Million in Student Debt and Changes Practices

  Attorney General George Jepsen state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Jonathan A. Harris today announced that Connecticut has joined with 38 other states and the District of Columbia in a national settlement with the Education Management Corporation (EDMC), an operator of for-profit post-secondary educational institutions. The settlement significantly reforms recruiting and enrollment practices, and forgives more than $102.8 million in outstanding loan debt held by more than 80,000 former students.

• State Reaches Agreement with Amphastar Providing Rebates for State and Municipal Naloxone Purchases, Will Receive Donation of 500 Doses of Life-saving Drug from Kaléo

  The state has reached an agreement with California drug-manufacturer Amphastar Pharmaceuticals, Inc. that will provide a $6 rebate for every dose of naloxone – also known by the brand name Narcan – that is purchased by a state, municipal or local town agency in Connecticut, Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Attorney General George Jepsen announced today.

• AG Jepsen, Consumer Counsel Katz Welcome PURA Draft Decision Delaying Any Closure of Eversource's Simsbury Work Center

  Attorney General George Jepsen and Consumer Counsel Elin Swanson Katz today welcomed a draft decision issued by the state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority that would delay the proposed closure of Eversource Energy's facilities in Simsbury until more information is known about the impact of previous closing of work centers around the state.

• AG Jepsen Cosponsors Letter Joined by 46 Attorneys General Asking Congressional Leadership to Preserve Role of States in Investigating Data Breaches

  Attorney General George Jepsen has cosponsored a letter joined by 46 fellow attorneys general from across the country calling on Congressional Leadership to preserve states' abilities to investigate and take action in response to data breaches affecting their citizens. The letter asks federal lawmakers, who are currently considering proposals for a national law on data breach notification and data security, not to preempt state laws in this area.

• Connecticut Joins Multi-State Effort To Compel EPA To Issue New Air Quality Standards

  Connecticut and 11 other states notified the federal Environmental Protection Agency today of their intent to sue after 60 days over the agency’s failure to issue revised National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Particulate Matter, or soot, as required by the Clean Air Act.

  A Superior Court judge has granted a state motion seeking revocation of a former Connecticut State Police trooper's pension following his conviction on a felony larceny charge related to his state position, Attorney General George Jepsen said today.

  Connecticut, as part of a multi-state coalition, has reached agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) on a new timetable for updating overdue energy-efficiency standards for certain new appliances and equipment, Attorney General George Jepsen and Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Daniel C. Esty announced today.
