Attorney General Announces $1 Million In Restitution Mailed To F&S Customers
September 15, 2010
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal today announced the mailing this week of $1 million in restitution checks to almost 3,000 F&S Oil customers owed oil or services when the company abruptly closed in 2008.
The checks should arrive in mail boxes over the next week.
“I am pleased that nearly 3,000 F&S customers are getting restitution -- money back for oil and services they paid for but never received,” Blumenthal said. “My office fought to secure $1 million for individuals and businesses harmed by F&S’ sudden closure, returning cash paid for services never rendered. Scarce F&S assets were a huge hurdle in our tough fight for restitution, but this result assures some relief.
“My office’s investigation into the collapse of F&S Oil -- including the actions of top managers -- is active and ongoing. We continue pursuing additional assets for restitution to F&S customers.”
Because of limited assets held by F&S at the time of its closure and claims by other creditors, the 2,927 customers will receive a portion of the money owed them.
