  Attorney General George Jepsen, a member of the negotiating team, joined Thursday in the national announcement of a landmark $25 billion joint federal-multistate agreement with the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers over foreclosure abuses and fraud, and unacceptable nationwide mortgage servicing practices.

  Attorney General George Jepsen announced today that 16 states, led by Texas and Connecticut, have filed an antitrust lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Texas alleging Apple Inc. (Apple), and publishing companies Macmillan Publishers Ltd. (Macmillan), Penguin Group (USA), Inc. (Penguin) and Simon & Schuster engaged in an anticompetitive price-fixing scheme for marketing electronic books.

  Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Social Services Commissioner Roderick Bremby are cautioning consumers about a postal scam involving fraudulent sweepstakes award notifications accompanied by a bogus government check bearing the State of Connecticut seal and purporting to be from the Department of Social Services.

• Benefits of National Mortgage Foreclosure Settlement Moving Forward in Connecticut

  Attorney General George Jepsen said the programs of benefits resulting from the $25 billion mortgage foreclosure servicing settlement are moving forward in Connecticut, including $119 million in loan modifications and $36 million in refinancing relief.

  Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein announced today that Connecticut has joined a $90 million multistate settlement with GlaxoSmithKline LLC to resolve allegations that the pharmaceutical company unlawfully promoted its diabetes drug, Avandia.
