Success Stories

Several CT state agencies have already implemented successful cost saving initiatives and policies.  A few successful case studies are shown below highlighting the projects and associated cost savings.

DAS reduced energy use and now saves about $253,000 a year after a 2015 upgrade. Energy efficiency project with DAS. Following this project, DAS reduced annual energy use by over 3,450 MMBtus resulting in estimated energy cost savings of $253,000 per year. By completing a mechanical renovation in 2015 at 55 Farmington in Hartford. The project cost was $609,550 with a payback period of 2.41 years.

 

DOC cut energy use and saves about $143,000 a year after a 2016 HVAC upgrade. Energy efficiency project with DOC. Following this project, DOC reduced annual energy use by over 3,000 MMBtus resulting in estimated energy cost savings of $143,000 per year. By replacing inefficient, outdated rooftop HVAC units in 2016 at their Robinson Correctional Center. The project cost was $275,381 with a payback period of 1.93 years.

 

DEEP collects food scraps at two offices and makes them into compost. This keeps 4 tons of waste out of the trash each year. Food scrap diversion at DEEP. The two main office buildings divert approximately 4 tons of materials from the waste stream. 79 Elm Street contracts with Blue Earth Compost that hauls food scraps to an anaerobic digestion facility. 10 Franklin Square volunteers collect food scraps and compost in an outdoor compost tumbler.
