Notice of a regulatory amendment to adopt a permanent replacement for emergency regulations effective on 25 September 2025 and scheduled to expire on 24 March 2026. In doing so, this proposal maintains the Department’s enforcement authority over the use of radioactive materials and other sources of ionizing radiation. Notice of Intent to Amend Regulations Concerning the Use and Control of Radioactive Materials
The main purpose of this proposal is the modernization of Connecticut’s regulations concerning the use and control of radioactive materials. This proposal also creates the regulatory infrastructure necessary to achieve Agreement State status with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and adopts civil penalties for violations related to sources of ionizing radiation. A public hearing will be held on January 17, 2024. Written comments are due no later than 5pm on January 29, 2024, a second extension of the original comment deadline of January 19, 2024.
