Artist Fellowship Program

Timeline & Process

The program is not currently accepting applications. The next application cycle is tentatively scheduled to open in the summer of 2022 (fiscal year 2023). The Office of the Arts is currently offering grants to artists through the Artists Respond program for the 2022 fiscal year. The Artist Fellowship web pages are for informational purposes only with an overview of the program as it ran in fiscal year 2021. Please note: changes may occur from one cycle to the next.

Review Process

According to discipline selections, applicants are assembled into manageable sized review groups with peers assigned to review and score application.

A secondary review is convened to assess top scoring applications and to make final recommendations including the three grant designations (Artistic Excellence, Artist Fellowship, Emerging Recognition) 

Final funding recommendations are presented to the Connecticut Arts Council for approval.

Review Criteria

The Artist Fellowship award is designed to recognize exceptional artists who will be actively making new work throughout the year the award is granted. Therefore, the review criteria includes up to 10 points for Artistic Excellence and up to 10 points for Impact of the Award on the Artistic Career of the Artist for a total of 20 points. 

The review criteria for Folk and Traditional artists includes up to 10 points for Artistic Excellence of Traditional Work and up to 10 points for Impact of the Award for the Artist and their Community for a total of 20 points. 

Program Guidelines:
