DCF online training is available through TRAIN Connecticut.

All community users must have a TRAIN Connecticut account to complete required training(s). This platform improves accessibility, tracking, and long-term certificate access.

Mandated Reporter Program Information

Mandated reporters are required to report or cause a report to be made when, in the ordinary course of their employment or profession, they have reasonable cause to suspect or believe that a child under the age of 18 has been abused, neglected or is placed in imminent risk of serious harm. (Connecticut General Statutes §17a-101a)

Frequently asked questions about Connecticut Mandated Reporter trainings.

How Often Am I Required to Complete Trainings Required of a Mandated Reporter?
1. For new employees: You must complete the training(s) within six months of hire.
  Refresher training(s) required every three years thereafter.
2. However, DCF continuously updates our courses at least annually to stay current with laws, regulations, and the vision and mission of the Department of Children and Families.
Can Online Trainings Be Taken as A Group?
1. No. Online trainings must be taken individually. Each person must complete the training on their own device or in a separate session to be issued a certificate of completion.
2. Please use the online inquiry form to schedule an in-person group training.
How Are Online Trainings Tracked?
1. Learners must register for online trainings individually using their individual name and email address. Please do not instruct more than one person to register for any course using the same email address.
2. DCF retains a database of all completions and certificates for learners who complete required online trainings.
Can I Complete an Online Training in More Than One Session?
1. Yes. You can resume where you left off in the course. When you restart the course and enter the same name and email address, you will be prompted with the question, "Would you like to resume where you left off?" Select "Yes" to continue from where you last stopped.
Does DCF Support Third-Party Training Platforms?
1. No, DCF cannot and does not have the ability to support third-party platforms, such as Vector Solutions, SafeSchools, GCN, Protraxx, Paycor, etc.
2. If your organization or school system uses a Learning Management System (LMS) to track completion for these trainings and you are experiencing technical issues or not showing as complete despite receiving a certificate from DCF, please reach out to your IT or HR support staff.
Does DCF Have Any Identified Resources That Can Be Provided as A Takeaway for Mandated Reporters?
1. Yes. There are a variety of handouts and resources that can be downloaded from the "Resources" section in the online trainings. Such as the Empowering Mandated Reporters brochure.
Once I Complete the Training and Receive My Certificate, Is There Any Further Action Required on My Behalf For DCF?
1. No. Once you receive your certificate of completion, no additional action or communication is required with DCF.
How long is an in-person (instructor-led) training?
1. 90-120 minutes (1.5 - 2 hours).
2. This time should be allocated by the organizer that has requested the training.
