Coordination of Benefits and Multiple Coverages Policy

The CT Teachers’ Retirement Board (TRB) will coordinate benefits for members that have other health benefit plans consistent with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) coordination of benefit rules. However, as the TRB operates a prescription plan and receives reimbursement from the Center for Medicare Services (CMS – the federal government) we cannot allow a member to participate in our prescription program at the same time that they participate in a Medicare D program, Medicare Advantage program or the program of another employer which receives the subsidy.  If you are covered or are considering being covered by another prescription plan concurrently with your prescription coverage through TRB you need to find out whether the other plan receives such a subsidy by contacting them directly.  If they do you need to decide which program you want to participate in.  You can cancel out of TRB coverage altogether, but you cannot cancel just the prescription plan and remain in the health plans.
