Filing Recommendations
CTRB strongly recommends that members file for retirement with this office at least four to six months prior to the effective date of retirement. If you are planning to retire on July 1st, you must file an Application for Retirement Benefits found under Active/Inactive Teacher Forms, along with a copy of your birth certificate no later than June 30th. If you are electing Plan D, Co-participant Option, you must also file a copy of your co-participant's birth certificate. All additional service credit must be documented on the required forms prior to your effective date of retirement in order to be purchasable. Benefits are not retroactive if you file late. This means that if you file in the month of July, your benefits will become effective on August 1, and will not be retroactive.
The Filing for Retirement/New Retiree - Questions and Answers Bulletin under Active/Inactive Teacher Publications provides important information regarding filing requirements, additional credited service, supplemental and/or voluntary account distribution, and new retiree procedures. In order to estimate your monthly benefit and the cost of any potential additional credited service, obtain the Benefit Estimator Worksheet and/or the Additional Service Credit Cost Estimator under the Benefit Estimator page .
