Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI)

The Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) announced on March 21, 2025 their intention to remove beneficial ownership reporting for businesses based in the United States. Please see FinCEN's website announcing this decision.  

The Secretary of the State is not collecting this information, and we will not have access to the information reported to FinCEN. FinCEN, a part of the United States Department of Treasury, is collecting this information and may share it with authorized law enforcement and financial institutions.

This notice is provided as a courtesy to businesses registered in the State of Connecticut. All questions must be directed to FinCEN. Our staff is unable to answer questions regarding beneficial ownership reporting, including whether your particular business is exempt.
