Overview
The Open Choice Program
The Open Choice program was established to reduce racial, ethnic, and economic isolation and improve academic achievement among students. This state-wide public school program offers Connecticut residents living in participating urban cities the choice to attend public school in nearby suburban towns and offers suburban students the option to attend a public school in a nearby urban city.
The local regional educational service center (RESC) provides information to families and participating school districts and is involved in the application and placement process for their area or region for students entering prekindergarten (PK) through grade 12. Grade availability may vary by Open Choice area. A lottery is used to place students when applications exceed the number of available spaces.
