Teaching Native American Studies

Preface

We hope the materials on the following pages assist you in the teaching of Native American studies. The resources that are included were provided by the five state-recognized Eastern Woodland tribes. Teaching resources include lesson samples and ideas, the historical and cultural background of each tribe, and primary sources. Additional teaching samples and resources will be added throughout the year. The CSDE, in partnership with each tribe and other statewide social studies organizations, will be sponsoring professional development that will provide teaching strategies and resources for teaching these important topics at all grade levels.

The CSDE recognizes the representatives of the five state-recognized Eastern Woodland tribes for their contributions to this resource. Connecticut educators can also submit lesson and unit ideas and resources for inclusion in this online resource.
