What is a facility fee?

A facility fee is a fee charged by a hospital or health system that covers the facility’s operating expenses. A facility fee is separate from the healthcare provider, or physician’s professional fee.

In Connecticut, facility fees can be charged for both inpatient and some types of outpatient services, such as an outpatient facility owned by or affiliated with a hospital or health system.
