How will I know if I have been charged a facility fee?

If your bill includes a facility fee, your healthcare provider is required to identify the facility fee on the billing statement. Your provider is also required to provide a written notice to you informing you of your right to request a reduction in the facility fee or any other portion of the bill and give you a telephone number to call to make that request.

It may still be difficult to determine if the amount you are asked to pay includes the facility fee or some portion of the facility fee. If you are uncertain, contact your health insurance plan and ask about their contract with your provider, what billing elements were discounted and what they have covered.
