• Gov. Malloy Applauds Final Legislative Passage of Bill to Protect Connecticut Residents from Negative Effects of Trump’s Tax Law

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy is hailing the Connecticut House of Representatives for voting 148-0 to give final passage to legislation originally proposed by the Governor that will protect Connecticut residents and employers from the negative effects of the federal Republican tax law that was adopted by Congress late last year and signed by President Trump.

• Gov. Malloy Highlights Steps toward Connecticut Fairness Achieved during the 2018 Legislative Session

  In February, Governor Dannel P. Malloy used his annual State of the State address before a joint session of the Connecticut General Assembly to focus on the theme of Connecticut Fairness. The Governor outlined several specific policy initiatives aimed at creating a fairer, more equitable, and more just state for Connecticut residents, stressing in particular the importance of focusing on fairness in the context of a tumultuous national and global political landscape. Legislators took action on several of the major initiatives the Governor proposed at the beginning of the legislative session and they are now being transmitted to his desk for his signature.

• Gov. Malloy Announces Sema4 Plans to Relocate its New York Laboratory to Connecticut and Create Over 400 Jobs in the State

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Sema4, a Mount Sinai venture providing advanced genomic testing, is planning grow its presence in Connecticut by adding 408 new jobs over the next five years. The health information technology company is moving forward with expansions at its two existing locations in the state, including its recently announced headquarters at 333 Ludlow Street in Stamford and its laboratory at 1 Commercial Street in Branford. In addition, the company will soon be relocating laboratory facilities from New York City to a yet-to-be-determined site in Stamford. The move will bring the company’s job presence in Connecticut to at least 553 employees.

• Gov. Malloy Announces $7.5 Million to Fund Clean Air Projects from Volkswagen Settlement

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut is making available $7.5 million dollars from the national legal settlement in the Volkswagen (VW) Corporation emissions cheating scandal to fund clean air projects. Administered through the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), eligible projects must reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions across the state and meet other program requirements.

• Governor and Mrs. Malloy Host Criminal Justice Community at First-in-the-Nation Conference Inside a Maximum Security Prison

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and First Lady Cathy Malloy today hosted Connecticut’s criminal justice community at a conference inside of the Cheshire Correctional Institution that was designed to build upon recent efforts in the state to reform the criminal justice system in order to reduce crime and end the cycle of mass incarceration. Attended by about 150 frontline officials – including judges, prosecutors, victim advocates, corrections officers, legislators, incarcerated individuals, educational leaders, and others – this was the first time in the nation that a conference of this kind was held within the walls of a maximum security prison, giving attendees an opportunity to view such a facility from the inside while discussing the impact that the policies they implement have on the very people who serve time in these kinds of institutions.

• Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation Banning Bump Stocks and Other Rate of Fire Enhancements

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today signed into law legislation that bans bump stocks and other enhancements that increase the rate of fire for semiautomatic weapons, including trigger cranks, binary trigger systems, and other modifications. The Governor proposed the ban earlier this year.

• Gov. Malloy Orders a Comprehensive Study of Electronic Tolling

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed an executive order directing state agencies to conduct a comprehensive assessment on implementing a new funding plan for Connecticut’s transportation system that prioritizes economic fairness toward the state’s residents by ensuring that drivers from out of state contribute their fair share to the operation and maintenance of the state’s highways while also possibly reducing taxes on the sale of gasoline.

• Gov. Malloy Reminds Residents That Atlantic Hurricane Season Begins June 1

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and state emergency management and insurance officials are reminding Connecticut residents that as the first day of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1, it is always important to have preparations in place should any severe weather potentially impact the state. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with the principal threat period for Connecticut occurring from mid-August to mid-October.

• Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Connecticut State Police Trooper First Class Walter Greene

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to be lowered to half-staff beginning immediately in honor of Connecticut State Police Trooper First Class Walter Greene, who passed away today in the line of duty following a courageous battle with cancer as the result of his response and service in support of New York City in the aftermath of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.

• Gov. Malloy: PricewaterhouseCoopers Plans Significant Connecticut Expansion That Will Create 400 New Jobs

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), the U.S. firm in one of the largest professional services networks in the world, is planning a major expansion project in Connecticut that will see the creation of up to 400 new jobs in the state over the next five years. The company plans to spend $20 million on the expansion, which includes establishing Stamford as the headquarters for its Insourced Solutions for Tax (IST) division.

• Gov. Malloy Kicks off 2018 Connecticut State Parks Season, Highlights Recreational Opportunities Across State

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Commissioner Robert Klee today kicked off the beginning on the state parks season in Connecticut. As a result of the recently launched Passport to Parks program, this is the first summertime season that vehicles registered in Connecticut will be provided free entry into all of Connecticut’s state parks.

• Gov. Malloy Directs Flags Lowered to Half-Staff Monday in Observation of Memorial Day

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and Connecticut flags to fly at half-staff on Monday, May 28, 2018 from sunrise until noon in observation of Memorial Day. As is customary for the holiday, flags are lowered throughout the morning and then raised to full-staff at noon. Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags, including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise, should also be lowered during this same duration of time.

• Gov. Malloy Announces Media Companies ITV America and Wheelhouse Entertainment Establishing Operations in Connecticut, Creating Hundreds of New Jobs

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that award-winning entertainment production group ITV America – the largest independent producer of non-scripted entertainment content in the United States – will be relocating a significant portion of its business operations to Stamford. Additionally, newly launched Wheelhouse Entertainment – founded by entrepreneur and media magnate Brent Montgomery – also will be using Stamford as one of its bases of operations. Combined, the two entertainment companies plan to create approximately 450 jobs in Stamford across areas of finance and operations, production, and post-production, and more.

• Gov. Malloy Marks 50th Anniversary of Fair Housing Act, Urges Legislature to Implement Fair Housing and Zoning Reform

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Department of Housing Commissioner Evonne M. Klein, members of the state legislature, and fair housing advocates from across Connecticut today marked the 50th anniversary of the passage of the federal Fair Housing Act, a key component of the Civil Rights Act of 1968. These sweeping reforms were enacted into law seven days after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In recognition of today’s historic anniversary, Governor Malloy proclaimed April 11, 2018, as “Fair Housing Day” in the State of Connecticut.
