• Gov. Malloy: 2015 Marks Fourth Straight Year of Increases in Funding and Mileage for State Road Resurfacing Program

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has resurfaced 330 two-lane miles of roadways this construction season - about 25 miles more than 2014, and nearly 90 more miles than the prior year.  The additional mileage was the result of an additional $5.7 million state investment into the CTDOT road program and marks the fourth consecutive year of increases in road resurfacing.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that an economic analysis performed on the I-84 Viaduct in Hartford demonstrates that the benefits of replacing the aging, 2.5-mile stretch of highway are two to three times the cost of its anticipated replacement.  Replacement - rather than inaction - will generate billions in economic activity while supporting thousands of jobs.  Allowing the Viaduct to deteriorate will impose huge costs on travelers as well as to businesses.

• Gov. Malloy Launches Conversation on Expanding ‘Second Chance Society’ Initiatives in Connecticut

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy, during a speech today at a Connecticut Law Review symposium on criminal justice reform, said that he is launching a conversation on how the state can build on Connecticut's "Second Chance Society" reforms.  While Connecticut has been a national leader in criminal justice, some of the ideas regarding juvenile justice proposed today would be first-in-the-nation reforms.  Shifting from a one-size-fits-all approach within the criminal justice system, Connecticut aims to differentiate and tailor its approach by potentially raising the age of the juvenile justice system's jurisdiction through age 20 instead of age 17, as well as allowing low-risk young adults aged 21 through 25 to have their cases heard confidentially, their records sealed, and the opportunity to have those records expunged.  He also discussed exploring bail bond reform.
