Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the state’s testing program for homeowners in northeastern Connecticut impacted or potentially impacted by the ongoing crumbling foundation problem has opened its application process and eligible homeowners can now begin applying to receive reimbursements for the testing of their homes. The state is making $5 million available to provide assistance related the costs of testing foundations for homeowners, which will better provide the state with data related to the scope of the situation while providing homeowners with another level of financial relief.

Gov. Malloy Activates State’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol Through Next Tuesday

Malloy today announced that in anticipation of temperatures over the next several days that are forecast to be bitter cold with negative wind chill factors at times, he is activating the state’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol beginning today and remaining in effect through Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Malloy is reiterating and increasing his warnings on the status of the state’s Special Transportation Fund (STF) following the release of a new report showing that the solvency of the fund is in growing jeopardy. The report lays out numerous state transportation projects in towns and cities across Connecticut that would be at risk of cancellation or deferral if the state does not take corrective action to support the STF.

Gov. Malloy Announces Launch of State’s ‘Fresh Start’ Tax Initiative
Governor Dannel P. Malloy along with Department of Revenue Services (DRS) Commissioner Kevin Sullivan today announced that DRS is launching the CT Fresh Start program – a voluntary compliance initiative available to both individuals and businesses that provides incentives to taxpayers who report and pay their outstanding, unreported tax liabilities to the state. This program, which was created by the bipartisan state budget Governor Malloy signed into law on October 31, is aiming to bring in $60 million to the state by the end of FY18 and an additional $25 million by November 30, totaling $85 million.

Malloy today announced that as a result of the state’s recently enacted juvenile justice reforms and the continuing decline in the crime rate and prison population, the Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) will be closing one of the ten housing units at the Manson Youth Institution in Cheshire. Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff Thursday for the Anniversary of the Tragedy in Sandy Hook
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and State of Connecticut flags to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, December 14, 2017, in remembrance of the 20 children and 6 adults who were killed five years ago in the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags – including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise – should also be lowered during this same duration of time.

Gov. Malloy Announces Opening of New Train Station in Wallingford That Will Serve the Hartford Line
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner James P. Redeker and numerous federal, state, and local officials to celebrate the grand opening of the newly constructed train station in Wallingford. Located at 343 North Cherry Street, the station will immediately begin providing service to existing Amtrak trains and soon will begin serving trains on the CTrail Hartford Line, the passenger rail service currently under construction and scheduled to launch in the middle of next year that will provide commuters with more frequent train service between New Haven, Hartford, and Springfield.
