  • 11/8/2011 Gov. Malloy's Wednesday Schedule

    On Wednesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will address the members of the Two Storm Panel at the beginning of their scheduled meeting to discuss the working group’s expanded scope, which now includes a review of the recent October nor’easter in addition to Tropical Storm Irene. The group was formed by Governor Malloy in the immediate aftermath of the tropical storm and is now charged with reviewing the preparedness, response and recovery efforts of the state and its partners – including the utilities and municipalities – related to the two storms.

  • 11/8/2011 Gov. Malloy: Two Storm Panel to Include October Nor-easter in their Charge

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the working group he created in the immediate aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene has been renamed the Two Storm Panel and has officially received an updated charge to include the recent October Nor’easter in its expanded scope. The group will next meet on Wednesday, November 9.

  • 11/8/2011 Gov. Malloy: FEMA, FCC to Conduct First Nationwide Test of Emergency Alert System

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today is reminding residents that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on Wednesday, November 9 at 2 p.m. EST.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Witt Associates’ Vice President of Preparedness Operations, Charles Fisher, will hold a media availability today to discuss the review of CL&P and UI for which Governor Malloy has retained them.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy will hold a morning media availability at 8:30 a.m. at the EOC before travelling to Boston on Monday afternoon to discuss higher education and workforce development issues at the “New England Works” conference at the Boston Federal Reserve Bank. In addition, Gov. Malloy will hold a 6 p.m. media briefing to discuss power restoration and other storm recovery issues. Following the briefing, Gov. Malloy will speak at an event sponsored by the UConn School of Business, where he will discuss the role of financial services in our state’s economic future.

  • 11/6/2011 Gov. Malloy Says CL&P will not Meet its Goal; Releases Updated Power Restoration Information Requested from Company Last Night

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today said that CL&P would not meet its self-identified goal of 99% power restoration in each city and town by midnight tonight, and released the document (attached) he asked CL&P yesterday, outlining updated town-by-town restoration times. This update will allow cities and towns across the state to more accurately plan for sheltering and warming centers, school schedules and give their residents more accurate restoration information.

    Tonight at 6pm, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will hold a news briefing from the State Emergency Operations Center in Hartford to provide residents and media with the latest updates on snowstorm recovery efforts.

  • 11/4/2011 Today: Gov. Malloy in Avon at 2:15 P.M.; Availability at 6 P.M.

    This afternoon, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will stop by a site in Avon (Winding Lane and Stony Corner Circle Rd) where the National Guard and CL&P are working to clear the road. The Governor will be there between about 2:15 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.

    Starting Saturday, November 5, property owners may place all tree-related debris from the October 29, 2011, Nor’easter five feet from the edge of pavement for pickup in the coming days/weeks.

  • 11/4/2011 Gov. Malloy Announces Firm Led by Former FEMA Director, James Lee Witt, to Conduct Review of Power Companies and Their Handling of Winter Storm

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Witt Associates, a consulting firm led by former FEMA Director under President Bill Clinton, James Lee Witt, will conduct a thorough and timely review of both CL&P and UI and their handling of the recent winter storm. Mr. Witt is the Chief Operating Officer of Witt Associates, a consulting firm that focuses on public safety and crisis management from mitigation to preparedness, response and recovery. Mr. Witt is conducting this review – which Witt Associates will have completed by December 1 – pro bono.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that President Barack Obama authorized additional FEMA assistance for Connecticut and its cities, towns and tribes, based on the amended application filed by the Governor on Tuesday. The White House notified the Governor’s Office of the authorization early this morning.

  • 11/3/2011 Gov. Malloy Signs Executive Order Increasing Availability of Propane for Homeowners

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy signed an executive order on Thursday that will increase the availability and accessibility of propane to households throughout the state. The executive order temporarily suspends a state regulation that prohibits the refueling of a propane tank by anyone other than the company that owns the tank.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy, working with Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William Rubenstein and Department of Banking Commissioner Howard Pitkin, is strongly urging all financial institutions to waive any late fees incurred as a result of Connecticut residents’ inability to conduct financial business due to the widespread power outages across the state.
