“The movement people in Connecticut felt was associated with the earthquake which originated in Virginia. Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection staff is at the Emergency Operations Center as a precaution, but at this point, there have been no reports of injury or damage.”

Gov. Malloy Appoints Dr. Robert Kennedy as Interim President of Board of Regents of Higher Education
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today appointed Dr. Robert Kennedy, immediate past president of the University of Maine, as the Interim President of the Board of Regents of Higher Education, a new system, which includes the four state universities (Central, Eastern, Southern and Western) as well as the community college system and Charter Oak State College, the state’s online college.

Tuesday: Gov. Malloy Meets with Commissioners, Continues Jobs Tour in New Haven and Shelton

Gov. Malloy Appoints Naomi Cohen as Chair of the Board of Trustees for Community-Technical Colleges
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today appointed Naomi Cohen as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Community-Technical Colleges. Cohen will serve as Chairman of the Board through December 31, 2011. Cohen, who lives in Bloomfield, is a former member of the Connecticut House of Representatives and the former House chairman of the General Assembly’s Education Committee.

Under Secretary Lawlor on Accreditation of the Division of Scientific Services Forensic Lab
Michael P. Lawlor, Undersecretary for Criminal Justice Policy and Planning at the Office of Policy and Management, today released a statement about the expiration of accreditation for the Division of Scientific Services Forensic Lab. Last week, Governor Dannel P. Malloy created a working group comprised of experts in the field to propose a short- and long-term solution to issues identified in recent audits.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today ordered the Connecticut and U.S. flags to fly at half staff in honor of Sergeant Edward J. Frank II, who was killed in action in Nalgham, Afghanistan when his mounted patrol vehicle struck an IED.

Gov. Malloy Announces Members of ECS Task Force
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced the members of a newly-formed task force that will review the effectiveness of the state’s Education Cost Sharing (ECS) grant and how it relates to state constitutional requirements. The group, whose membership was appointed by Governor Malloy and legislative leaders, will develop recommendations on possible ways to change how money is divided up by school district.

State Receives $6.7 Million Federal Grant to Create Health Insurance Exchange
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman today announced that the state has secured a $6.7 million federal grant to help create the Connecticut Health Insurance Exchange, which by 2014 will offer individuals and small businesses a variety of coverage options.
