Connecticut Department of Housing Announces Funding for Homelessness Support Across the State Including Cold-Weather Shelters
(HARTFORD, CT) The Connecticut Department of Housing (DOH) today announced $8 million in funding for homelessness prevention and support services. DOH is once again awarding $4.5 million in state funding to five agencies to support cold weather emergency shelters for the 2025–2026 winter season. Last winter, DOH’s cold weather shelter funding provided life-saving accommodation to nearly 5,000 individuals. Additionally, DOH will provide $3.5 million to eleven nonprofits in order to staff the 14 HUBs across Connecticut. A HUB is a physical space where individuals and families experiencing housing instability can interact with case managers and access services to help create a path towards housing stability. The awarded agencies will coordinate with local providers, municipalities, and our Coordinated Access Networks (CANs) to provide access to services, efficient referrals, and safe shelter environments.
“Access to a warm, safe place to sleep is a critical necessity, especially during Connecticut’s harsh winter months. The cold-weather funding will ensure that any individual or family experiencing homelessness can find the refuge they need.” said Connecticut Housing Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno. “We’re also continuing to work with our service providers and other partners to reimagine the shelter experience and provide the wrap around services for our residents.”
