A full range of fun, outdoor winter activities for the entire family will be happening on Saturday, February 5, 2022, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event is a partnership between DEEP’s No Child Left Inside® and Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education (CARE) programs plus the City of Torrington.

(HARTFORD) — The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today that 30 marine pumpout facilities will receive $980,982 in funding for the 2024 boating season under DEEP’s annual Federal Clean Vessel Act (CVA) program. This program is an effort to improve water quality in Connecticut’s navigable waterways by providing federally funded matching grants for qualifying projects that provide boat sewage disposal facilities, more commonly known as pumpouts.

DEEP Announces Recipients of Fourth Annual Round of Grants for Aquatic Invasive Species Control
(HARTFORD) — The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced the recipients of the fourth round of grant funding through the Aquatic Invasive Species Grant Program, with a total of $545,000 going to 13 projects to reduce impacts of aquatic invasive species on inland waters in Connecticut.

2023 Connecticut Junior Duck Stamp Art Competition Welcomes Entries through March 15, 2023
(HARTFORD, CT) – Attention all creative young artists and art educators in Connecticut! Entries are now being accepted for the 2023 Connecticut Junior Duck Stamp Art Competition. This annual competition is coordinated and sponsored by the Connecticut Waterfowl Association, in cooperation with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Wildlife Division. The competition is part of a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) environmental education program known as the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program.

DEEP Announces $1.46 Million to Support Clean Air Vehicle and Equipment Projects in Connecticut

The eight projects announced today are part of the 2022 Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) State Grant Program.

DEEP Announces 46 Recipients of 2023 Volunteer Fire Assistance VFA Grants
(HARTFORD) — The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced that forty-six local volunteer fire departments are receiving 2023 Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) Grants which will be used to train personnel and purchase equipment aimed at improving their firefighting capabilities. These funds are provided through a federal program to support fire departments in towns with a population of less than 10,000 people.

DEEP Announces Free Swimming Lesson Program in Partnership with Boys Girls Club of New Britain
(New Britain, CT) – Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (“DEEP”) Commissioner Katie Dykes joined local and state elected officials, and Boys & Girls Club of New Britain (BGCNB) leaders today to announce $250,000 to fund free swimming lessons to qualifying children at the BGCNB pool deck. The partnership with the BGCNB will enable children 17 and under to receive free swim lessons at the facility’s pool.

Regional Emergency Preparedness Exercise To Be Held in Capitol Region Sept. 17
(HARTFORD)—Several emergency preparedness and response agencies are gathering on Saturday, September 17th in Windsor Locks to conduct a full-scale training exercise. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), State Emergency Response Commission, the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services (Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS) and Connecticut Commission on Fire Prevention and Control), the Connecticut Military Department’s New England Disaster Training Center, the Town of Enfield, fire departments from Enfield and Windsor Locks, Hartford County Fire Coordinators, DEMHS Regional representatives and the Connecticut Capitol Regional Hazardous Materials Team. Other participating agencies include the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and the United States Coast Guard. Vinal Technical High School emergency management program students assisted with exercise logistics as part of their training.

State Reports Positive Mosquitoes for West Nile Virus in East Haven
The State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program (MMP) announced that mosquitoes trapped in East Haven on July 30 tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV).

(HARTFORD)— The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is pleased to announce that up to $4 million is being made available for public and private entities to purchase and install light-duty Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). This funding is part of DEEP’s Diesel Emissions Mitigation Program to reduce transportation related air pollution from light duty gasoline and diesel vehicles, funded through a 2018 settlement between the federal Environmental Protection Agency and Volkswagen for violations of the Clean Air Act.
