Emergency Burn Ban In Effect 10/26/24 - An emergency burn ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors. DEEP and local agencies are working to contain several active fires across the state. Please avoid all affected State Parks and Forests, as well as the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail. The Enduro Trail in Voluntown and portions of North Stonington within the Pachaug State Forest are closed at this time. Notice of Public Listening Session for the Significant Industrial User General Permit for Discharges to Publicly Owned Treatment Works (Siu GP)

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) will hold a virtual public listening session to solicit feedback and comments from stakeholders on the Significant Industrial User General Permit for Discharges to Publicly Owned Treatment Works (“SIU GP”) for the future reissuance of the permit. The session will consist of an informational presentation of the existing permit and target reissuance roadmap by a representative of the Water Permitting and Enforcement Division and the remainder of the allotted time will be used for the solicitation of comments from stakeholders.

The current SIU GP was issued on October 30, 2020 and is available on the DEEP Website at: https://portal.ct.gov/-/media/deep/permits_and_licenses/water_discharge_general_permits/siugp.pdf.

During the public listening session DEEP will take comments and feedback on the eligibility criteria and permit conditions in the permit. DEEP encourages written feedback and comments of technical nature be submitted via e-mail to DEEP.pretreatment@ct.gov. Please include the words “SIU GP” in the subject line to help ensure your comments will be forwarded to the correct staff. DEEP suggests using redline, track changes and comment boxes on the current general permit allowing us to better understand the comments.
