• 6/22/2022 DEEP Announces Recipients of Second Annual Round of Grants for Aquatic Invasive Species Control on Lakes, Ponds and Rivers

  (HARTFORD)-The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced the recipients of the second round of grant funding through the Aquatic Invasive Species Grant Program, with a total of $370,000 going to 15 projects to reduce impacts of aquatic invasive species on inland waters in Connecticut.

  (HARTFORD)— There’s still time to apply to be a lifeguard with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) this summer, but the deadline to apply is rapidly approaching on June 20th!

• 6/17/2022 DEEP Announces Members and First Meeting of Connecticut Environmental Justice Advisory Council

  (HARTFORD) –The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is pleased to announce appointments to the Connecticut Equity and Environmental Justice Advisory Council (CEEJAC), a new advisory council formed to advise DEEP on current and historic environmental injustice, pollution reduction, energy equity, climate change mitigation and resiliency, health disparities, and racial inequity.

• 6/9/2022 DEEP Re-imposes Alcohol Ban for Seven Recreation Areas

  (HARTFORD, CT) – The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has re-imposed temporary alcohol bans for seven state recreation areas. These bans are in effect immediately and until September 5, at the following locations.

• 6/3/2022 CT Greenways Council Holds 23rd Annual Greenway Awards and Kicks Off CT Trails Day Events

  (HARTFORD)- The Connecticut Greenways Council (CGC) held its 23rd Annual CT Greenway Awards this morning at the Poquonnock River Walkway in Groton. The event is traditionally held on the Friday before CT Trails Day, which occurs this weekend on June 4 and 5.

• 6/2/2022 DEEP Announces Lifeguard Starting Pay Increased to $19/Hour

  (HARTFORD)—​The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is thrilled to announce that starting pay for lifeguards has increased to​$19/hr., up from $16/hr., with a salary range of $19-$21/hr.

• 5/24/2022 DEEP Announces Assistance Available to Help Businesses Recycle and Divert Food Waste, Save On Disposal Costs

  (HARTFORD)—The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is pleased to announce that free technical assistance is now available for Connecticut businesses looking to better manage their waste and save on disposal costs through waste prevention, reuse, recycling and composting.

• 5/23/2022 Turtles and Roads Are a Deadly Combination

  Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is reminding residents to be on the lookout for turtles crossing roads. May through July is the nesting season for many turtles. At this time, egg-bearing females travel across land, and sometimes roads, to find the perfect location to dig a nest and lay eggs. Aquatic turtles also leave the water in search of terrestrial nesting sites.

• 5/20/2022 DEEP Forecasts Elevated Levels of Ozone for CT for Saturday May 21

  (HARTFORD)—Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is expecting several days of very warm weather, which will contribute to elevated ozone levels across much of Connecticut. These levels may approach or exceed Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) levels for parts of Connecticut on May 21, 2022.

  (HARTFORD, CT) – With record-breaking temperatures this weekend, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) urges all residents and visitors getting in or on the water this weekend to prioritize water safety.

• 5/16/2022 CAES and DEEP Anticipate Heavy Spongy Moth* Defoliation in Litchfield County this Spring

  New Haven, CT - Connecticut’s Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) are cautioning residences in northern portions of Litchfield County to anticipate a heavy presence of spongy moth (formerly named gypsy moth) caterpillars this spring along with significant defoliation of hardwood trees. Spongy moth populations rose substantially in 2021 particularly in the Sharon-Cornwall area last year, and spongy moth caterpillars have begun to emerge.

  (HARTFORD)— The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is thrilled to announce that the 2022 Great Park Pursuit kicks off this Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Osbornedale State Park in Derby with trout stocking for the kids, fishing for all (with equipment and bait for loan), and a variety of other family friendly activities.

• 4/27/2022 Baldwin Bridge State Boat Launch To Temporarily Close May 2-6

  (HARTFORD)— The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today that the Baldwin Bridge State Boat Launch in Old Saybrook will temporarily close for renovations effective May 2, 2022 through May 6, 2022.

• 4/25/2022 2022 Spring Wild Turkey Hunting Season Opens April 27

  (HARTFORD)—Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is reminding hunters and other outdoor users that the 42nd Connecticut spring wild turkey hunting season runs from April 27 through May 28. All hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to recreate responsibly as more people are using public lands where hunting may be occurring.
