DEEP Kicks-Off a Comprehensive Review of Connecticut’s Water Quality Standards

(HARTFORD, CT) – The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is conducting its triennial review of Connecticut’s Water Quality Standards to determine if revisions are necessary. DEEP is requesting the public’s input regarding the current standards, and recommendations on what to focus on, as part of the 2019 review. The agency will use public feedback to help identify future changes to the standards.

"The Connecticut Water Quality Standards form the foundation of Connecticut's water management programs," said DEEP Commissioner Katie Dykes. "It is critical that we update the standards to remain consistent with state and federal law in order to reflect the best available science."

DEEP is holding a public meeting on March 13, 2019 at 1:30 pm, in the Gina McCarthy Auditorium at DEEP Headquarters, 79 Elm Street, Hartford. Comments on the Water Quality Standards will be accepted through April 5, 2019.

Any changes to the standards will go through a regulatory procedure to be adopted into official regulation. There will be an additional opportunity for the public to make comments prior to any being regulations are changed.
