DEEP Announces Reopening of the Windsor Locks Canal State Park Trail

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced the planned reopening of the Windsor Locks Canal State Prk Trail on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Since its closure was announced on June 1, 2018, DEEP and The Windsor Locks Canal Company have been working diligently to address insurance issues surrounding the public use of this property.  The Windsor Locks Canal Company leases this land to DEEP at no cost for public recreational purposes.
Today DEEP crews are working to clear debris and brush that has accumulated on the trail in anticipation of the opening of the trail on Saturday.
While a final resolution on the insurance has not been made, The Windsor Locks Canal Company has agreed to the reopening of the State Park Trail while DEEP works on supplying new or alternative insurance prior to the trail opening next spring.  DEEP and the recreating public commend the good faith shown by The Windsor Locks Canal Company and appreciate the support of the two host communities, Windsor Locks and Suffield, during the closure of this important 4 ½ mile trail along the scenic Connecticut River.
