Emergency Burn Ban In Effect 10/26/24 - An emergency burn ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors. DEEP and local agencies are working to contain several active fires across the state. Please avoid all affected State Parks and Forests, as well as the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail. The Enduro Trail in Voluntown and portions of North Stonington within the Pachaug State Forest are closed at this time. DC Mason Trumble

Mason Trumble is the Deputy Commissioner of Environmental Conservation at DEEP, leading the conservation of Connecticut’s natural resources while also focusing on increasing outdoor recreation opportunities statewide. As both an avid outdoorsman and leader in the outdoor industry, Deputy Commissioner Trumble has experience working across business, government and NGOs to expand access to the outdoors through innovative public-private partnerships.

Before serving as Deputy Commissioner he was part of REI’s New England leadership team focused on outdoor experiences and brand engagement, Mason worked with many non-profit partners across the state to invest outdoor recreation infrastructure and trails across the state.  One of his most meaningful achievements at REI includes designing “Cheers for Public Lands,” a political advocacy campaign that built crucial public support for a constitutional amendment (which successfully passed) to protect state lands here in Connecticut. Mason is the founder of the Connecticut Outdoor Recreation Alliance - an coalition of outdoor business and NGOs focused on protecting and promoting Connecticut’s outdoor recreation resources.

An avid outdoorsman and trained outdoor guide, Mason moved to Connecticut after working as a NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) instructor in Utah, an operations manager for a whitewater rafting outfitter and a conference director for an outdoor retreat and conference center in Maine. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in outdoor education.
