Digital Model Initiative (DMI)

A pilot project created to assist small and medium-sized defense suppliers in adopting and transitioning to Model-Based Definition (MBD) technologies, leading to improved quality, reduced costs, and increased efficiency.  The initiative focused on process innovation using MBD technology to change how manufacturers design and produce parts using 3D modeling.   

Outcomes included: 

  1) Supplier adoption, enabling successful delivery of a manufactured part with a compliant digital inspection record

  2) Workforce development curriculum, resulting in the creation of content for the purpose of training incoming employees and upskilling incumbent workers

  3) The development of a digital playbook, providing an account of the best practices and lessons learned throughout the project
