Landscape Architect Licensing Information

Prerequisites:

  • Hold a professional degree in landscape architecture from a college or university accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board.
    • In lieu of graduation from an accredited college or school of landscape architecture and such practical experience, an applicant may be admitted to the examination upon presenting evidence of:
      1. Having graduated with at least a bachelor's degree in a discipline related to landscape architecture or in landscape architecture from a college that has not been accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board, provided the curriculum is consistent with that of an accredited landscape architecture program as determined by the board, with the consent of the Commissioner of Consumer Protection.
      2. A minimum of four years of practical experience under the direct supervision of a licensed landscape architect.
  • Have at least two years of diversified experience in landscape architecture under the direct supervision of a licensed landscape architect.
  • After completing the experience requirement, apply to the board to receive approval to sit for CLARB registration examination. Once successfully completing the CLARB registration examination, contact the department for instructions once you have passed all CLARB exam portions.

 

Required Documentation:  

  • Applicants applying for licensure by examination: council record provided through CLARB including a college transcript and employment records to receive board approval to sit for the LARE
  • Landscape architects currently registered or licensed in another state: apply with a Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) Certificate Record.
  • Landscape architects currently registered or licensed in another state: the Board may permit an applicant, in lieu of a Council Certificate, to submit information regarding education, examination, and experience in the form of a CLARB Council Record.

Renewal:

All landscape architect licenses expire annually on July 31st.  Renewal fee: $160.00

  • If you have your User Id and Password, please go to www.elicense.ct.gov to access your account.
  • You may request your User ID and Password by emailing the following information to dcp.online@ct.gov:
  1. Name
  2. License type
  3. License number
  4. Email address
