Renewals

All liquor permits are renewed annually, running from date of issuanceYou must renew your permit on-time to remain in good standing and use your permit.  If your permit expires, you are not allowed to sell or serve alcoholic beverages.

We only accept online renewals.  You will receive an email with a reminder to renew about 6-8 weeks before your permit expires.  Make sure your email is current with us and will accept emails from @ct.gov email addresses!!!  This is your responsibility Follow the link in the email to do a Fast Track Renewal.  You can find technical support and videos about how to do a renewal here.

  • Package Stores: It is extremely important that you renew your permit on-time.  Failing to renew on time may result in you losing your permit entirely.   Because there are only a limited number of package stores allowed in a town, if your permit expires, a “vacancy” is created.  Someone may apply for that vacancy, meaning you could be prohibited from renewing and lose your permit if no other package store permits are available in your town.

We do allow late renewals with an additional $100 fee on top of the base annual fee for your permit.  Our online system will automatically allow late renewals for about a month after expiration (except for package stores).  Thereafter, permission from the Liquor Control Division is required (permission always required for package stores).  Email DCP.LiquorControl@ct.gov for permission and assistance with late renewals.  Please note: If your permit is more than a year out of date, you must apply again.  You will not be able to do a Fast Track Renewal if you are late.  You must log into the eLicense account created for you when your permit was first issued.

Voluntary Suspensions

If you anticipate your business being closed for thirty (30) or more days, please put your permit in voluntary suspension status.  Voluntary suspension freezes your permit; you cannot use it to sell or serve alcohol.  You may renew your permit once while in voluntary suspended status (and you must renew it to keep it in good standing).  If your permit is not removed from voluntary suspension before the second renewal, it will expire.

There is nothing punitive about a voluntary suspension; the Liquor Control Division does not broadcast voluntary suspensions or highlight them in any way.  It is simple a tool to keep your permit in a “frozen” status while your business is temporarily closed.

Cancellations

You must cancel your permit if you terminate your business for any reason.  Cancellations can be done at any time through your eLicense account.  Follow these instructions. By law, we cannot refund you any fees for your permit.
