CEQ Review of "Environmental Study: Change in Use of New Britain Water Company Land (Proposed Quarry Expansion and Future Water Storage Reservoir)"

NEW! The Council on Environmental Quality has received the Environmental Study: Change in Use of New Britain Water Company Land (Proposed Quarry Expansion and Future Water Storage Reservoir) report. Pursuant to Public Act 16-61 the Council has reviewed the report and submitted comments on the report to the City of New Britain.

Comments from the public (see below) have been very useful to the Council. You may still send comments to peter.hearn@ct.gov.Comments on the information in the report itself and the Council's comments, rather than on the merits of the proposed project, would be useful at this stage. Later in the year, the City of New Britain will hold a public hearing, and there will be additional opportunities to submit written comments at that time. At the current stage, the CEQ is reviewing the report and preparing comments on the content of the report.

The CEQ will not be voting in favor of or against the proposal; the CEQ's responsibility is to submit comments on the environmental report to the City of New Britain. Specifically, according to Public Act 16-61, the CEQ's comments are to address the following:

Determine potential impact on environment

Determine potential impact on purity and adequacy of existing public water supply

Determine potential impact on purity and adequacy of future public water supply

Provide guidance to the New Britain Water Department concerning the suitability of the best management practices identified in the in the report for the protection of

  • the environment
  • public water supply
  • public health
