2. Notice of Scoping for Abandonment of Middletown Wastewater Treatment Facility

Municipalities where proposed project would be located: Middletown and Cromwell

Project Description: As a result of a feasibility study conducted in 1999 by the City of Middletown, which focused on various means to collect, convey and treat wastewater for Middletown, the City will evaluate alternatives to convey wastewater to the Mattabassett District Wastewater Treatment Plant in Cromwell and abandon its existing treatment system on River Road.  In order to abandon the treatment facility in Middletown, a conveyance system will need to be constructed from River Road in Middletown to the Mattabassett plant.  The proposed conveyance system would consist of a pumping station on River Road, gravity sewers to the new pumping station, ductile iron force main along the CT Route 9/Providence and Worcester Railroad corridor between the Middletown and Mattabassett treatment facilities, and connection of the new force main to the Mattabassett plant.

Any person can ask the sponsoring agency to hold a Public Scoping Meeting by sending such a request to the address below.  If a meeting is requested by 25 or more individuals, or by an association that represents 25 or more members by September 17, 2004, the Department of Environmental Protection will schedule a Public Scoping Meeting.

The agency expects to release an Environmental Impact Evaluation for this project, for public review and comment, later in 2004.
