EIE Notice
Project Title: Chester Sanitary Sewers
Municipalities where project is proposed: Chester and Deep River
Project Description: A wastewater study of existing conditions and future needs for the Town of Chester has identified septic system problems, which can best be addressed by the provision of sanitary sewers. In addition, an evaluation of the town's existing wastewater treatment system has shown that the facility is insufficient to meet either existing or future treatment and capacity needs. The study has recommended providing sanitary sewers; specifically, gravity sewers for portions of Water Street, North Main Street, Spring Street, Maple Street, Main Street, Old Depot Road, Railroad Avenue, Pratt Street, and Middlesex Avenue (Route 154), force mains on Main Street and Middlesex Avenue (Route 154), and low pressure sewers on a portions of Hickory Hill Road, Gilbert Hill Road, School Lane, and Middlesex Avenue (Route 154). The study also recommends the connection of the existing and proposed sanitary sewers to the Town of Deep River's sewerage system as well as abandonment of Chester's existing wastewater treatment system. This connection will occur at the intersection of Middlesex Avenue (Route 154) and Winter Street located in Deep River. The existing pump station in Chester will also need to be upgraded for compatibility with the proposed sewer area.
