1. Notice of Scoping for Belding Mill Redevelopment Project

Project Description: The Municipal Brownfield Grant funds will be used to remediate and redevelop the former Belding Masonry Mill Complex.  The remediation activities include the removal and abatement of hazardous building materials, and the removal of underground storage tanks and contaminated soil at the 1.85-acre parcel at 107 Providence Street.  The remediation work will enable the redevelopment of the existing building into 120 mixed-income residential units and approximately 5,000 sq. ft. of commercial and recreational space.

Written comments from the public are welcomed and will be accepted until the close of business on: October 19, 2023.

Any person may ask the sponsoring agency to hold a public scoping meeting by sending such a request to the address below. If a public scoping meeting is requested by 25 or more individuals, or by an association that represents 25 or more members, the sponsoring agency shall schedule a public scoping meeting. Such requests must be made by: September 29, 2023.

What Happens Next: The sponsoring agency will make a determination whether to proceed with preparation of an Environmental Impact Evaluation (EIE) or that the project does not require the preparation of an EIE under the Connecticut Environmental Policy Act (CEPA). A Post-Scoping Notice of its decision will appear in a future edition of the Environmental Monitor.
