Brief Description of Historical and Current Uses :The property was acquired by Connecticut Department of Transportation for road improvements on Route 66, Meriden Road at the intersection of Route 217, Ballfall Road. Upon completion of the improvements DOT declared the property surplus to their needs. The property has been transferred to the Department of Economic and Community Development and is currently under its custody and control. The property currently contains a vacant two story single family home.

Proposed use by property recipient, if known: Middlesex Habitat proposes to rehabilitate the home and sell it to a first-time homebuyer earning under 80% of area median income.

The agency is proposing to transfer the property with the following restrictions on future uses: The re-use and future use of the property will be restricted, in perpetuity, to affordable housing purposes in accord with Connecticut General Statute 8-37y. There will be a declaration of land use restriction filed on the town's land records.
If checked, the state is not currently proposing restrictions on future uses.

Reason the State of Connecticut is proposing to transfer this property:The purpose of the transfer is to increase the availability of affordable housing in the town of Middlefield.
