• 9/28/2015 AG Jepsen Joins Colleagues in Urging Passage of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2015

  Attorney General Jepsen has joined attorneys general from 36 other states and the District of Columbia in sending a letter to the leadership of the Committee on the Judiciary for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives urging passage of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2015 (S. 524/HR 953). The proposed law would provide states with important tools to be more effective in confronting the growing challenge of heroin and opioid abuse and addiction.

  Should the state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority ultimately approve the proposed acquisition of UIL Holdings by Iberdrola, the companies will commit as many resources as necessary to remediate the island in New Haven that currently houses the contaminated English Station power plant, Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Robert Klee announced today.

  Attorney General George Jepsen today joined with 10 fellow attorneys general from around the country in calling on the U.S. Department of Education to cancel federal student loans in cases where Corinthian Colleges and other for-profit colleges and universities have broken state law, including laws prohibiting unfair and deceptive sales practices, and to provide clear processes for students seeking relief.

  Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that Connecticut has joined with 47 other states and the District of Columbia in a $71 million settlement with biopharmaceutical company AMGEN, Inc. to resolve allegations that the company unlawfully promoted two biologic medications, Aranesp and Enbrel.

• 8/6/2015 State Warns Businesses about “Official” Reporting Scam

  Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Jonathan A. Harris, Secretary of the State Denise Merrill and Attorney General George Jepsen are warning businesses across Connecticut about bogus forms being sent by the “Division of Corporate Services” seeking payment for an “Annual Records Statement,” alleging that payment is required by Connecticut law.

• 8/4/2015 State Joins $2.7 Million National Settlement with Pediatric Services of America, Inc. to Resolve Overcharging Allegations

  Attorney General George Jepsen, Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane and state Department of Social Services (DSS) Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby announced today that Connecticut has joined a federal-state settlement with Pediatric Services of America Inc. (PSA) to resolve allegations that the company inappropriately failed to return overpayments received from state Medicaid programs as well as other federally insured health programs. PSA is also alleged to have overcharged for home nursing services by improperly rounding-up claims to the nearest whole hour. The Georgia-based pediatric and home-care company has agreed to pay the states and the federal government $2.7 million.

• 7/22/2015 AG Jepsen Joins Colleagues in Urging Phone Carriers to Offer Call-Blocking Technology Customers

  Attorney General George Jepsen has joined 44 other state attorneys general in urging five major telephone companies to offer their customers call-blocking technology to assist them in avoiding unwanted robo-calls. In a letter sent to the chief executives of the carriers, the attorneys general stated that a new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rule clarification actually allows telecommunication service providers to offer customers the ability to block unwanted calls. Telephone companies previously claimed that federal law administered by the FCC prohibits them from implementing existing technologies to block robocalls.

  Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill and Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that during Fiscal Year 2015, a joint effort by their offices resulted in the collection of nearly $1.8 million in penalties from out-of-state companies operating in Connecticut without legal authority to transact business.

• 7/10/2015 AG Jepsen: State Reaches False Claims Act Settlement with Providers at Children's Behavioral Health Clinic

  A social worker and a doctor will pay a total of $120,000 to Connecticut's Medical Assistance Program through settlement agreements that resolve civil allegations involving the filing of false and fraudulent claims for payments at a Branford-based outpatient behavioral health clinic for children, Attorney General George Jepsen said today.

• 7/9/2015 AG Jepsen, Consumer Counsel Katz: Settlement with Electric Supplier Will Provide $2.6 Million in Support for Operation Fuel

  Under a settlement agreement filed with the state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority today, electric supply company North American Power LLC will pay $2.6 million to the nonprofit Operation Fuel, Attorney General George Jepsen and Consumer Counsel Elin Swanson Katz announced.

• 7/8/2015 AG Jepsen: Joint State-Federal Settlement with Chase Will Reform Credit Card Debt Collection Practices, Cease Collection Actions on 5,000 Connecticut Consumer Accounts

  Connecticut has joined with 46 other states, the District of Columbia and the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in a $136 million settlement with Chase Bank USA N.A. and Chase Bankcard Services, Inc. to resolve allegations that the bank engaged in unfair, misleading and deceptive business practices – including so-called "robosigning" – in connection with its consumer credit card debt collection business, Attorney General George Jepsen announced today.

  Attorney General George Jepsen has cosponsored a letter joined by 46 fellow attorneys general from across the country calling on Congressional Leadership to preserve states' abilities to investigate and take action in response to data breaches affecting their citizens. The letter asks federal lawmakers, who are currently considering proposals for a national law on data breach notification and data security, not to preempt state laws in this area.
