Attorney General Tong Statement on Second Circuit Rejection of Preliminary Injunctions in Challenges to Connecticut's Assault Weapon and Large Capacity Magazine Bans
Attorney General William Tong released the following statement regarding the decision by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit affirming denial of preliminary injunctions sought by the National Association for Gun Rights, the Connecticut Citizens Defense League, the Second Amendment Foundation, and individuals in two separate challenges to Connecticut’s post-Sandy Hook assault weapons ban.

Attorney General Tong Announces Court Approval of $150,000 False Claims Settlement With Dentist Over Prohibited Patient Recruiting Fees
Attorney General William Tong today announced a $150,000 false claims settlement with Norwalk dentist Nazneen Jaffri, DDS (“Jaffri”) resolving allegations that she violated state and federal False Claims Act statutes through prohibited fees paid to a “patient recruiting” company. Also today, the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut issued judgment against Jaffri for the outstanding balance of the $150,000 settlement.

Attorney General William Tong today issued the following statement after the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted a preliminary injunction finding Connecticut and a multistate coalition were likely to succeed on their claim that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) decision to provide unfettered access to individual personal health data to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which houses Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), violated the Administrative Procedure Act’s prohibition on arbitrary and capricious rulemaking.

Connecticut Lab and Owners to Pay More Than $1.2 Million to Settle False Claims Act Allegations
Attorney General William Tong today announced that Genco Lab, LLC and its owners and officers, Paul Conroy, Tricia Conroy, and Charles Orefice, have entered into a civil settlement agreement with the federal and state governments and agreed to pay more than $1.2 million to settle allegations that they submitted false and fraudulent claims to government health care programs.
