The Bureau of Aging (BOA) helps older adults get the services they need to feel safe, confident, and independent. It plans and manages programs that support older adults living in their communities across Connecticut.
BOA studies what services people need and checks to make sure those services are working well. It also helps older adults, their families, and caregivers find the right support and connects them to helpful programs.
Many of these services are part of a federal law called the Older Americans Act. These services include:
- Help at home
- Meal programs (both at home and in group settings)
- Job programs for older adults
- Health insurance counseling
- Breaks and support for caregivers
BOA works with many partners to provide these services. These partners include local agencies, senior centers, and groups that support older adults across the state. BOA also provides oversight of and leadership for the Coalition for Elder Justice in Connecticut.

You can also learn more by reading the Connecticut State Plan on Aging 2024-2027. The plan is a requirement of the federal Older Americans Act and covers the period of October 1, 2024-September 30, 2027. This plan was informed by public input and feedback from the Area Agencies on Aging, the aging and disability networks, and other stakeholders. It presents a blueprint to address the needs of Connecticut’s older adults over the next three years. The plan challenges us and you, as our partners, to focus our work in the following areas: long-term services and supports, healthy aging, and elder rights.
In response to the Older Americans Act regulations issued in 2024, the Bureau of Aging, has drafted a State Plan amendment, which updates the Information Requirements and Intrastate Funding Formula to address the changes in regulations.
